Another Valentine’s Day Project!

My sincere apologies for running so late with this post. A lot happened over the past week. I finally found a new job! I needed to get used to waking up early everyday and working… Not sure I’m quite there yet, but I’m definately working on it. Wish me luck!

As promissed, here is the second part of my three part Valentine’s day series. Today, we will make a conversation heart couch cushion. A super simple project that will get you right in the romantic mood.

Step 1 – Pattern

For this project you need a half heart shape which you will cut on the fold. I started with a circle shape and and added the pointy edge by free hand, but a simpler way to do it is by printing a heart image and folding it in half for the pattern.

Step 2 – Cutting the Fabric

Now we fold the fabric and pin the pattern to the fabric with the straight edge along the folded edgd of the fabric. Now we cut. This stepp should be repeated twice for the front and back of the cushion.

Step 3 – Adding the Writing

For this part you can get creative. I decided to add writing on both sides. One side with a romantic message and the other with a not-so-romantic message. This way, I’m prepared for any occassion.

For adding the writing I used fabric markers. You can also embroider the wiriting.

Step 4 – Sewing

Now we take the two pparts of the heart and sew them to each other right sides facing. Don’t forget to leave an opening a couple of centimeters long so you can turn it over.

Before turning it over I recommend clipping the edges and cutting the corner of the pointy edge of the heart for an extra sharp corner, Careful not to cut into the stitches…

Now we are ready to add the filling and hand sew the opening shut.

Enjoy!
